For now, we must understand that Lego chose a safe route with this Advent calendar and also chose a limited run not to have lots of these sets hanging around later to diminish the "Friends" image after the holiday season. Lego has a lot vested in this line, and as a father, I loudly applaud their efforts. My daughter loves the lego friends line and plays with them side by side with my son and his star wars sets.

In this case, it comes down to the fact that I can, for the first time, this Christmas, set aside a calendar that is for my daughter and my son. It doesn't have to be some half hearted attempt to make Lego City more interesting.

People may complain that Lego should not be making gender specific sets, but I firmly disagree. If young girls need the different toys to engage and be interested, then we need to understand that difference and celebrate it, not rail against it. I have never pushed or steered my kids in any direction, the reality of the situation is that when I take my kids into Walmart, or TRU, or Target, then my daughter likes looking at (and asks for) the Friends line, and my son likes the Star Wars line.

So for Christmas, I am most definitely (having already bought it) this set out for the holiday with my son's starwars set and they both can have their own unique experience.

Most importantly, an experience that they both like, and will both enjoy.
